Montenegro, which means “Black Mountain”, is a Balkan country with majestic mountain, thick forest, medieval villages, and breathtaking beaches along the Adriatic coastline. After gaining independence in 2006, this tiny nation is poised to recreate itself as a luxury travel mecca. Fast forward, Porto Montenegro is now the billionaire’s playground in Europe with super yachts, waterfront resident, luxury shops and bars lining the marina.
Of all the sights along the Adratic shoreline, Sveti Stefan is Montenegro’s most photographed site. This tiny fortified islet is connected to the mainland by a causeway and its pink-sand beach and tempting turquoise waters are a charmer on the Adriatic. This entire island is now part of the luxurious Aman resort meaning it is off limits only to paying guests.
The UNESCO-listed town of Kotor is another medieval charmer. Characterised by winding cobblestone streets filled with churches, cathedral and museum, the Old Town of Kotor offers scenic view and oozes an idyllic ambiance.
The best time to visit Montenegro falls roughly between April to October. It may be good to avoid the busiest period from June to August when the beach is crowded and the temperature may be too warm for our comfort.
